The Best Beaches in Providenciales, Turks and Caicos
The best beaches in Providenciales: Grace Bay, Leeward, Taylor Bay, Sapodilla Bay, Long Bay and the top snorkel spots, with tips on which beach suits whom.

Providenciales has more great beaches than you can visit in one trip. The sand is made of broken-down shells and coral, so it stays soft, white and cool underfoot, and the water around the island runs from pale turquoise to deep blue. The question is not whether a beach is good, but which one fits the day you want.
Grace Bay Beach: the famous one
Grace Bay stretches for miles along the north shore and is regularly ranked among the best beaches in the world. The water is calm most of the year, protected by a barrier reef offshore, and the sand is wide and soft. Most of the island's resorts and many restaurants line the beach, so it is easy to spend a whole day here with lunch a few steps away.
Best for: a classic beach day, long walks, swimming and sunset drinks. Tip: the stretch away from the big hotels is noticeably quieter.
Leeward Beach: Grace Bay without the crowds
At the island's northeast tip, Leeward Beach continues the same soft sand and calm, clear water as Grace Bay, with far fewer people. Across the channel you can see the small cays that boats visit for Half Moon Bay and Iguana Island. It is on the same east end of the island as our villa, a few minutes' drive away.
Best for: a quiet swim, long walks and wide-open views.
Taylor Bay: the family favourite
On the south coast near Chalk Sound, Taylor Bay is a small, sheltered cove with warm, shallow water that stays knee-deep a long way out. Small children can splash safely while adults wade and float. There are no facilities, so bring water, snacks and shade.
Best for: families with young kids and lazy floating afternoons.
Sapodilla Bay: calm water and a view
Next door to Taylor Bay, Sapodilla Bay is another calm, shallow beach on the south coast, popular with families and boats anchoring for the afternoon. Paddleboards and jet skis can often be rented here. A short trail above the beach leads to a hill with old rock carvings left by shipwrecked sailors and a lovely view over the bay.
Best for: easy swimming, watersports rentals and sunset.
Long Bay Beach: wind, water and kites
Long Bay runs along the southeast shore. The water is shallow and calm underfoot, and steady trade winds make it the island's best spot for kiteboarding and wing foiling, especially in the windier winter months. Even if you do not ride, watching the colourful kites over the turquoise flats is a show. It is also on the east end of the island, close to the villa.
Best for: kiteboarding lessons, long shallow walks and photos.
The best snorkeling from the beach
Smith's Reef
Near Turtle Cove, Smith's Reef offers the best shore snorkeling on Provo, with coral heads, reef fish and the chance of turtles and rays. Swim out from the marked access and follow the reef. Go on a calm day and stay aware of boat traffic.
Bight Reef (Coral Gardens)
In the Bight, along central Grace Bay, the Bight Reef is the easiest snorkel spot to find and the best one for beginners and kids. The coral is close to shore in shallow water.
Snorkel tipVisibility is usually best around high tide on days with little wind. Use reef-safe sunscreen, never stand on the coral, and remember that fishing and taking conch or lobster without a licence is illegal.
Beaches you reach by boat
Some of the most beautiful sand around Provo is on the small cays just offshore. Half Moon Bay, between Water Cay and Little Water Cay, has a glassy lagoon and powder-soft sand, and Little Water Cay (Iguana Island) is a protected home for the endangered Turks and Caicos rock iguana. Most boat trips stop at both, along with sandbars that appear at low tide.
From Below Deck you can board a private charter right at our dock, no transfers needed.
Wild and remote: Malcolm's Road Beach
On the far northwest coast, Malcolm's Road Beach is remote and rugged, with some of the best snorkeling near shore when conditions are calm. The road is rough and best driven in a 4x4, and you are unlikely to see many people, so go prepared and never leave valuables in the car.
